On 16th September an interactive lecture took place as a part of the Days of Prague 11 on the theme “WE LIVE HERE TOGETHER.”
The lecture was given by co-workers of the Association for Integration and Migration- Daniela Jasovská and Radka Hájková. The lecture was centered on questions of racism, xenophobia, refugees and all foreigners who live in the Czech Republic. The audience consisted of fourth and seventh year grammar school students in Prague 11.
The lecture for children was prepared interactively. A quiz was a part of the lecture- questions, which formed the basis of the lecture, as each question included introduced an additional theme which the lecturers spoke about. If appropriate, a short discussion on the given theme was held. Our organization- AIM- was also introduced- why it was founded, what we currently offer foreigners and how we participate in the integration of foreigners into Czech society.
At the conclusion of the lecture children played a game of police officers and refugees and by means of experience saw what it is like to be foreign, a foreigner, a person who is not accepted by his surroundings, but also what it is like to have certain power and to decide the fate of other people- as well as in be in the role of the police officers who decide on entry across state borders.
The game was concluded with a targeted guided discussion, which ought to have connected the information provided with the children's own experiences from the game.
An exhibit by our Association was also a part of the presentation: photographs and stories of foreigners- refugees, where the audience had the opportunity to be introduced to concrete fates and life journeys, including those of clients of our organization.
The aim of the lecture was to give children information on the above mentioned themes though a understandable form, so that they understood the themes and had the opportunity to express themselves and participate during the course of the presentation.
According to the responses we received, we believe that there was a very positive response to the lecture. The children were active and the organizers of the event offered additional opportunities to cooperate with grammar schools and AIM in the area of education about human rights, migration, refugees, integration of foreigners and multicultural society.
