Interns

We apologize, but we are not currently accepting new interns.

At the Association for Integration and Migration we regularly take on interns from social work and social law programs. The number of people interested in an internship is quite large, and thus it is recommended to apply well in advance. We would like for you to have some knowledge on the theme of refugees and have a clear idea about which area you would like to focus on during your internship.

For further information about interning at AIM we have created a structured plan of activities, which of course can be changed or expanded after consultation with you. You should be aware that the activities outlined below are in basic form. The activities of AIM are very diverse. It may be that you do not need to take part in all of the activities listed below, and we will try to suit your needs as best as possible.

General plan of the activities of interns at AIM

Day 1
Clarifying what the intern expects from the internship and what AIM may offer him/her. Intern fills in a short introductory questionnaire, on the basis of which the internship coordinator can have a clear picture of what the intern is and is not familiar with. Then they create together (according on the length of the internship) a daily schedule of what the intern will be focused on, based on the opportunities available at AIM.
Introduction with the individual offices, familiarization with organisation operations and the internal policies, regulations, and rules of the organisation.
Day 2
Through a brief training, the intern will be familiarized with the situation of refugees in the CR. He/she searches for relevant literature which he/she will study during the internship. The internship coordinator provides the intern with a look into laws, guides and manuals, etc. The intern may search for further information on the issue, for example in electronic resources.
Days 3-5
Progressive steps toward working with clients. The intern may be present in meetings with clients only with his/her express consent. If he/she receives consent, the intern will continue to work with the client. As a part of the internship he/she will also devote time to, for example monitoring the situation in the client's country of origin on the internet or in literature, translations of individual documents, etc.
Day 6
Opportunity to visit the refugee centres. This depends on fulfilling the terms which are set for successfully receiving permission to enter the centres. Observes further direct contact with clients.
Day 7
Familiarizing with other projects. As a part of the internship the intern, for example may accompany the coordinator of the women's groups. Truly women of all cultures participate in these groups, jointly solving everyday problems, getting to know the traditions of various countries, painting, etc.
Days 8-9
Creation of an individual plan for clients. Consultations and aid during the orientation of foreigners in social and legal areas. Aid during completion of individual plans, escorting client to institutions, administrative offices.
Days 10-14
Intern Mini Project - As a part of the internship , the intern can carry out his/her own “mini project” or join in with other active projects. The mini project can be about, for example enhancing work with clients, free-time activities focused on the integration of foreigners into Czech society (concerts, festivals, multicultural events), manuals and studies, monitoring countries of origin, monitoring changes in the social benefit and healthcare systems, monitoring asylum proceedings in other countries. The intern can use his/her creativity and diverse ideas here. The inter can be actively involved in the above-mentioned activities, or can think of something that might benefit the organisation on his/her own.

As we have already mentioned, the activities of SIMI are very diverse, and may change from day to day. For this reason, the list of activities is not final and an activity may not take place on a certain day. It depends on the different areas of work and the necessities of the work with clients.

We believe that what we try to pass on to you will be beneficial for you and on the other hand we would appreciate all of your suggestions, warnings and any other impulses which might advance us further.
